Often referred to as caps, dental crowns cover or “cap” your existing tooth or an implant post, restoring the function and appearance of your smile.
What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are durable, hollow prosthetic pieces that fit over your natural tooth, or over a prosthetic post used for dental implants. They are also used to secure dental bridges to natural teeth, and can be made from a variety of materials depending on where in your mouth they are needed. Dental porcelain is the most popular material because it is both strong and esthetic, and can usually be used for anywhere in the mouth. A crown provides protection and structural support for the following:
- Cavities too large to treat with a simple filling
- A tooth requiring coverage to restore its full function and to protect it from invading bacteria after root canal treatment
- Implant restorations to top the titanium posts
- To stabilize a dental bridge
Your crown will be fabricated from impressions taken of your top and bottom teeth and sent to a dental lab. A master ceramist will custom-create your crown according to careful specifications to provide a comfortable bite alignment, as well as an esthetic appearance. In the meantime, we will send you home with a temporary crown or prosthetic, so you do not have to leave the office with missing teeth.
Dıfferent Types of Dental Crowns
We offer crowns crafted out of a variety of materials, based on the location and bite forces they will be required to endure. At Patara Dent Dental Clinic in antalya, we consider both the function and beauty of the finished product and, therefore, may offer one or more of the following options:
All Metal: Made from gold alloy, all-metal crowns are primarily used on back molars due to their strength.
Zirconia: These crowns are made of solid zirconia and are used for their strength and tooth-colored appearance.
Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM): These crowns consist of a gold alloy base covered with porcelain. Dr. Akyuz will use a PFM crown when you need the stability of gold, without sacrificing the beauty a porcelain crown offers.
E-Max: With E-Max crowns, patients receive an all-ceramic crown designed to look natural and withstand powerful bite forces. E-Max crowns are metal-free and provide restoration for damaged or stained teeth. We fabricate E-Max crowns using CAD/CAM technology, ensuring an accurate and durable restoration.
